Buying Paper Shredding
Many people are starting to find paper shredding to be an important part of their home
office. Paper shredding can keep important personal information out of the wrong hands. When
buying a paper shredder there are many different factors to look at. It is rather important
for a person to fully understand their paper shredding needs before buying a paper shredder so
that the shredder they buy works for them. The first consideration any buyer should make is
regarding what they are going to be shredding. This includes knowing how often they will be
shredding documents, the amount of documents they will shred and the type of documents. These
are important because there are a variety of paper shredders, each with its own features. Some
shredders, like an office paper shredder, can handle shredding large amounts of papers in a
day, while others, specifically home paper shredders, are not suited to handle more than a
modest amount of shredding per day. Also many shredders are made to shred single pages of
paper, while others can shred multiple pages and even CD’s. The next thing to look at are
the desired features. There are paper shredders with built in safety features that prevent
shredding things that should not be, like fingers or clothing. Some shredders have an on/off
button while others work automatically when a paper is inserted. There are reverse features
that can bring a paper back out of the shredder quickly if a mistake is made and something is
shred that shouldn’t be. There are also shredders that come with built in baskets and others
that are made to sit on a trash can. The next consideration is how the paper shredder cuts.
There are two main types of paper shredding cuts. There is a strip cut, which cuts the paper
into strips, usually an average size of ¼”. There is also a cross cut paper shredder that
shreds paper into small pieces. While either type of cut would make it difficult to reassemble
a paper, the cross cut is often used when documents are highly sensitive. Cross cut shredders
also produce more compact shreds which means less waste. There are numerous paper shredders
on the market. Many brands, like a Royal paper shredder, are popular, but there are also many
lesser known brands that can work just as well depending upon a person needs. It is important
to know, though, that going with a cheaper shredder could mean a sacrifice in quality and life
of the paper shredding, so it may be wise to spend a bit more to get a good quality paper
shredder. Paper shredders can be complex, so that is why it is important to be prepared and
know what is wanted before heading out to shop. Knowing the intended use will really help a
person to choose the paper shredder that will work best for them. |
